MEDICAL GAS SYSTEMS

Trained professionals who install, inspect verify and maintain medical gas systems are critical to medical procedures and patient health.

ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 6000, the medical gas industry standard, provides jurisdictions and employers with a nationally recognized standard to use in confirming that individuals working on critically important medical gas systems possess the knowledge and experience required.

The Series 6000 provides uniform minimum requirements, based on NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code, for medical gas and vacuum systems personnel such as installers and inspectors. ASSE 6000 also gives uniform requirements for third-party certifiers who certify these professionals.

ASSE 6010 Installers

Prerequisites

Minimum of four years of documented experience in installing plumbing or mechanical piping systems

Certification

32-hour training course covering ASSE Standards 6010, and applicable sections of NFPA 99
100-question written exam, and a practical brazing exam in accordance with NFPA 99

ASSE 6020 Inspectors

Prerequisites

Employed by a governmental unit as a plumbing/mechanical inspector; or an administrator of inspectors; or regularly involved in the design, inspection or verification of med gas systems; or be a certified ASSE 6010 Installer
Minimum of two years of documented experience, or any combination of the above

Certification

24 hour training course covering ASSE Standard 6020, and applicable sections of NFPA 99 and NFPA 55
100 question written exam

ASSE 6040 Maintenance Personnel

Prerequisites

Employed or contracted by a health care facility, or actively engaged with med gas systems
Minimum of one year of experience in the maintenance of med gas and vacuum systems

Certification

32 hour training course covering ASSE Standards 6040, and applicable sections of NFPA 99
100 question written exam

ASSE 6060 Medical Gas Systems Designer

Prerequisites

Two (2) years documented experience in the mechanical and plumbing systems industry and require practical knowledge of the design of medical gas and vacuum systems.

Certification

32-hour training course covering ASSE 6060, the essential requirements of NFPA 99, NFPA 55, FGI Guidelines and elements of design.
100-question written exam
