ASSE 6010 Recertification Course

ASSE 6010, Medical Gas Systems Installers
November 8, 2013 - 1pm - 5pm

This course applies to individuals who hold a current NITC ASSE 6010 certification and install medical gas and vacuum systems.

Medical gas systems and equipment covered in ASSE 6010 include health care facilities within the scope of NFPA 99-2012, Health Care Facilities Code. Installers include anyone who works on or installs piping or components, including brazers. Candidates will need to complete a registration form and provide picture ID prior to the 2.5 hour examination.





ASSE 6010 Course Outline

1. What the class will cover:
•   Review of NFPA 99 2012
•   Changes in NFPA 99
•   Review of ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 6000
•   Written Test

2. Medical Gases and Support Gases:
    Oxygen, Medical Air, Nitrous Oxide, Nitrogen and Instrument Air, Vacuum,
    and WAGD

3. Medical Gas and Support Gas Pressures:
    Oxygen, Nitrous Oxide and Medical Air / Nitrogen and Instrument Air /
    Medical-Surgical Vacuum / WAGD

4. Valve Specifications for Positive Pressure Systems

5. Shutoff Valve Requirements:
    Source Valve, Main Valve, Riser Valve, Service Valve, Zone Valve

6. Master, Area and Local Alarms

7. Materials Cleaned for Oxygen Service:
    Copper tubing, valves, fittings and other components

8. Brazing and Installation Requirements


Exercises:

•   10 Worksheets and review sessions

Medical Gas Piping and Review for Final Exam
•   Review NFPA 99 and ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 6000
•   Review all worksheets and prepare for Final Exam
•   Review list of changes in ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 6000

COURSE INSTRUCTOR:
LAURENCE T. COLEMAN
ASSE 6050 Certified Instructor
ASSE International Region #8 Director




Laurence T. Coleman, Region #8 director of ASSE International, has been an ASSE member since 1996. He has been a working group member of the ASSE 6000 for the last three revisions and is a member of the Professional Qualifications Standards Committee. Training and mentoring are some of Coleman’s passions. He teaches apprentices and journeypersons at the United Association Local 597 in Chicago as well as the U.A. Instructor Training Program, and has the responsibility of lead medical gas coordinator for Pipe Fitters Local 597. Coleman is a member of ASPE, NFPA, ASHE, and other industry related organizations. Larry is currently employed as a pipe fitter for The Hill Group based in Franklin Park, Illinois. Coleman completed his U.A. apprenticeship training in 1986 and the U.A. Instructor Training Program in 2006. The passion to train and share his experience about medical gas systems keeps him driven, but balanced to provide for his family first.





This course applies to individuals who hold a current NITC ASSE 6010 certification and install medical gas and vacuum systems. A $50 exam fee must be paid in advance. For those not registered for the Annual Meeting, a $50 E.J. Zimmer Technical Seminar Pass must also be purchased ($100 total). Candidates will need to complete a registration form and provide picture ID prior to testing, and will be allowed to use the 2012 edition of the NFPA 99 (not provided) during the 2.5 hour open-book paper and pen examination.
