Thank you for your interest in the ASSE Cross Connection Control Certification Program.

In 1987, the ASSE Board of Directors recognized a plumbing industry need for a Professional Qualification Standard for individuals involved in backflow prevention. The result was the ANSI/ASSE Series 5000 Professional Qualifications Standard for Backflow Testers, Repairers and Surveyors. The Standard establishes minimum industry requirements for testing, repairing and surveying backflow equipment. Please keep in mind that this, as with all ANSI Standards, is a minimum requirement standard and intended as a guide. ASSE works with many local and state jurisdictions whose requirements far exceed these minimum requirements.

The ASSE program ensures that only qualified individuals are testing, repairing and surveying backflow equipment by demonstrating knowledge of the local, state, and national requirements. The ASSE Certification program will assure each jurisdiction that a qualified course of instruction has been taken and both a written and practical examination on suitable equipment has been passed. Certification to an ANSI accredited national standard affords liability protection to both the person and to the regulating jurisdiction.

ASSE has identified a wealth of resources including backflow articles, agencies and manufacturers. Click here to be directed to our Backflow Resources page.
